Is FocusOS safe?

Your computer may warn you. That's expected.

Why you see a warning

Browsers and Windows warn about new apps from independent developers, sometimes with strong words like "dangerous" or "could not verify". FocusOS is free and doesn't have a paid certificate yet, which is why you may see this.

It's safe to open when you download it from this site. Windows Defender finds no threats in it, there's no account, and it sends nothing about you anywhere. The privacy policy has the details.

Check it yourself

On VirusTotal, 66 of 67 security scanners found nothing in the Windows 0.2.0 installer, including Microsoft, Kaspersky and BitDefender. One, DeepInstinct, flags it, which we believe is a false alarm.

How to get past it

In your browser: open your downloads list and choose Keep or Download anyway. In Edge that's under the ... menu, then Keep, Show more, Keep anyway.

On Windows: at "Windows protected your PC", choose More info, then Run anyway.

Only do this for files downloaded from this site. If you got FocusOS anywhere else, please download it again from here.

Android

Android asks before it installs anything from outside the Play Store, and Play Protect may warn you about an unknown developer. FocusOS isn't on the Play Store, so it may say that. Only install it from the FocusOS website.

It also asks you to turn on an Accessibility service, which Android warns about because that permission is powerful. FocusOS's service can't read your screen, and Android may ask you to allow restricted settings first. The privacy policy explains what it uses.
