Terms and Conditions
Effective: 7 November 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Shikhar Shahi, known online as GGshikhar, an individual developer in India ("we"). By installing or using FocusOS you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't install or use it. Our privacy policy explains what happens to your data.
If you are under the age at which you can make this agreement where you live (18 in India and many other countries), a parent or guardian must agree for you.
What FocusOS is
FocusOS is a free app that helps you keep to a focus session. On a computer it watches what you open, can use your webcam to notice a phone, and asks you questions about both. On an Android phone, the FocusOS app covers the screen for as long as the session runs.
Your licence
You may install and use FocusOS on your own computers and phones, for personal, study or work purposes. It is free of charge. We keep all rights we don't give you here.
Parts of FocusOS come from other people under their own licences, including the ones listed in section 8. Those licences apply to those parts and nothing here limits the rights they give you.
What it is not
FocusOS is a speed bump, not a prison. It is designed to make a distraction cost you a decision. It can be got around by someone determined, and it doesn't claim otherwise.
It does not guarantee it will notice every phone, every distraction, or that anything it notices is really a distraction. It can be wrong in both directions. Its results, including minutes, certificates and summaries, are a record for your own use and not proof of anything for anyone else.
It is not a medical device, and it is not medical or psychological advice, diagnosis or treatment, including for ADHD or any other condition. It is not a safety system. Don't rely on it for anything where a failure could cause harm.
The phone lock leaves the phone app and emergency dialling available, and has a way out. Still, we can't promise how every phone will behave, or that a call, alarm, message or notification will reach you during a lock. Don't lock a phone at a time when you must be reachable, need it for your safety or health, or need it to drive or find your way. Check that calling works on your phone before relying on the lock.
Using it properly
You agree that:
- You will use FocusOS only on a computer or phone you are allowed to use this way, and won't lock anyone else's phone without their agreement.
- You won't use it to monitor anyone else, or use its webcam feature where other people haven't agreed to it or where the law doesn't allow it. If you use it for an employer, school or anyone else, you are responsible for meeting the privacy and employment laws that apply.
- You won't use it to break the law, or attack or overload our website or cloud services.
- You are responsible for what you type into it and what you share from it, including certificates.
- It can minimise your windows and, with the add-on, close your browser tabs during a session. You should save your work before locking a session, and you accept that this can happen. That is what it's for.
Updates
The apps check for updates only when you press the button. An update replaces the app with a newer version and may change what it does. Each download is checked against a published checksum before it runs.
The app is not signed with a paid code-signing certificate, so Windows or Android may warn you when you open it. See the usage guide.
No warranty
To the extent the law allows, FocusOS is provided "as is" and "as available", free of charge, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don't promise it will be uninterrupted, error free, or that your data in it will never be lost. Keep your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, study time, marks, income or opportunity, arising from using or being unable to use FocusOS, including lost work in a window or tab it minimised or closed, or a call, message, alarm or notification missed while a phone was locked.
Because FocusOS is free, total liability for anything else is limited to the amount you paid to use it, which is nothing.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for deliberate or grossly negligent harm, or anything else that the law doesn't allow to be limited. Nothing in them takes away a consumer right that the law where you live doesn't allow to be taken away.
Third-party parts
FocusOS includes or uses, among others: Flutter and its packages (BSD and similar licences); SQLite (public domain); ONNX Runtime (MIT); OpenCV (Apache 2.0); OpenCV's YuNet face detector (MIT); and a phone detection model trained with Ultralytics YOLO (AGPL-3.0) from Open Images and COCO data (annotations under CC BY 4.0). The terms of those licences apply to those parts.
Pengu's character and artwork are by @mahyathecoolone, who owns them. FocusOS may use them, but these terms give you no right to reuse them elsewhere.
The website and apps link to third-party services, such as GitHub, Instagram and UPI apps, and they have their own terms. We use Google's services to run the website and the phone lock, and we don't control whether they are available.
Supporting FocusOS
Any payment made to support FocusOS is a voluntary gift. It buys no extra features, no support obligation, and isn't refundable unless the law requires it.
Ending
You can stop at any time by uninstalling. If you break these terms, your permission to use FocusOS ends, apart from any rights a licence in section 8 gives you directly. We may change or stop offering FocusOS or its online parts at any time. If the phone lock's cloud service stops, the rest of the app keeps working.
Changes and governing law
These terms may change. The current version is on the website with its date, and using a later version means you accept the terms that came with it. If a change matters, we will say so in the changelog.
These terms are governed by the laws of India. If you are a consumer, you also keep the mandatory protections of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in its courts where the law gives you that right. If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
